Two homes and a large garage were destroyed by fire in the village of Newkirk, Schuylkill County, on Monday. The fire broke shortly after 7 p.m. in the 600 block of Old Route 209. All of the residents managed to escape the fast-moving flames. Fire companies from throughout Schuylkill County responded. A medic unit was called to the scene for a reported "fireman down."
