A Catasaqua woman was killed in an early morning crash on Route 248 near Palmerton.

According to Carbon County Coroner Robert Miller, the report was originally called in as a double fatality, but only one person was in the car. Crews searched the area around the crash but didn't find anyone else.

Miller said the woman's identity is being withheld until next of kin is notified.

The car was traveling west at a high rate of speed.

The Lower Towamensing crash happened on the westbound side, near the cantilever.

Firefighters from Lower Towamensing were on scene.
