Polk Township is missing some information needed for the 2016 audit.

In a letter dated Feb. 20, the township auditors made several suggestions to the supervisors regarding the township finances, but more importantly, noted that they were unable to complete the audit of the tax collector due to missing information.The letter noted that the check registry from January through Feb. 21 is missing.Deposit slips from January, June, July, August, September and December are missing, as are the beginning and ending balances.According to township Treasurer Beverly Ann Christman, tax collector Carolyn Meinhart has not responded to the township's request to provide the records."The tax collector is an elected position," Chairman Brian Ahner said. "Not really sure what we can do about it right now."Tax collectors for Monroe County are audited yearly by the county controller's office.Allison Stettler, deputy controller for the county, said Meinhart's most recent audit was for the years 2014-2015 and there was nothing amiss and all disbursements were made to the county in a timely manner.Stettler said Meinhart will be audited for 2016 sometime during 2017.Cleary also confirmed that the township received the disbursements from Meinhart in 2016 in a timely manner.When contacted Meinhart replied that she had only become aware of the missing information on March 22, even though the letter from the auditors had been dated Feb. 20. Meinhart is in the process of gathering the missing information."I send monthly reports to the school district and county as required by law," Meinhart said. "It's just a matter of me getting a few things put together. I wasn't aware that they weren't in the information I provided."
