Carbon County court - drug cases

Eight defendants in pending drug-related cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:Alicia Susan Hibbler, 38, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.She was arrested on Jan. 10 when Mahoning Township police responded to the area of 1241 Blakeslee Blvd. Drive East for a reported young male causing a disturbance. On scene the police found a 14-year-old male who was also smoking a cigarette at the time. His mother, Hibbler, was called to the scene to get him.When she arrived, police detected criminal activity and found her in possession of baggies with meth residue on them. Other drug paraphernalia was also found on her person. She is currently an inmate in the county prison on the charges.Matika sentenced her to time-served (57 days) to one year in jail and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use, and render 50 hours of community service.Schana Andrea Stewart, 28, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance. She was arrested on Aug. 20by Nesquehoning police while they were investigating the theft of four fentanyl patches from the residence of Brenda Zilker, at 40 E. Catawissa St. She admitted taking the patches. A theft count was dropped in a plea bargain.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.She has been an inmate in the county prison for the past 61 days on the charges.Holly Marie Koch, 24, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Feb. 1 by Mahoning Township police in the parking lot of the Walmart store. Police observed her leaving the store and knew there was a warrant out for her arrest. While taking her into custody they found the paraphernalia in her purse. A charge of possession of a controlled substance was dropped in a plea bargain.Matika noted her prior criminal record and said it is growing. "You're 24 years old and have a prior record score of five. You're going downhill fast."Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.She is currently an inmate in the county prison awaiting a probation violation proceeding.Monica Jean Lutz, 21, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Dec. 18by Mahoning Township police at the Walmart store. Police responded to a report of a retail theft incident and found Lutz outside in a vehicle. She admitted driving the suspect in the theft incident to the store. She was found with seven empty baggies with heroin residue.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Paula Jean Shafer, 43, of Pocono Pines, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance - cocaine. She was arrested on Oct. 18by agents of the state Attorney General's office at the Country Inn along Route 940 in Kidder Township. She was arrested in a room at the inn on a warrant and cocaine was found in plain view.Matika sentenced her to serve three to 12 months in prison and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service when released. The sentence runs concurrent with a prison term she is serving in Lehigh County. That sentence runs out Friday, at which time she will be transferred to the county prison to finish the new sentence imposed.Lindsay Ann Gombert, 32, of Summit Hill, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested on Feb. 26, 2016, along East Ludlow Street by Summit Hill police following a traffic stop. She was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked for violating conditions.Matika placed her on probation for a year and ordered her to get both a drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and render 50 hours of community service.Charles Calvin Erbe Jr., 49, of Coaldale, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on Dec. 30at the Turkey Hill along West Patterson Street by Lansford police.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.Amanda Skripnek, 23, of New Ringgold, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana. She was arrested on Oct. 10, 2013, by Nesquehoning police along Mermon Avenue following a traffic stop. She was previously placed in the ARD program but revoked for violating conditions.Matika imposed a fine of $200.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
