A project to rehab one of its bridges could cost Lehighton over $77,000.

Borough Manager Nicole Beckett said six companies submitted proposals Tuesday for the Ashtown Drive Bridge Rehabilitation Project on Ashtown Drive.AR Popple Construction, Wilkes-Barre, turned in the apparent low bid of $77,580, which was $21,635 less than the next lowest bid of $99,215 from Professional Construction Contractors, Bethlehem.Other companies that turned in bids were Bi State Construction Co. Inc. Easton ($124,510); Earthwork Services, Danville ($126,009), JPS Construction Co. Inc. Glenside ($185,000), and Nimaris Construction, Bath ($238,868).Beckett said council is scheduled to act on the matter when it meets at 7 p.m. Monday.The work includes activities and materials to place install concrete underpinning along the two abutments and one center pier of the bridge structure; to provide road closure signage; water diversion; and erosion and sediment measures.Council agreed to advertise the project in December, per correspondence from Coleman Environmental Engineering LLC.Beckett said the borough has been working with McMahon Transportation Engineers, which is the state Department of Transportation's bridge inspectors, on the substructure repairs to the bridge.She said the borough received its Department of Environmental Protection permit in mid-2016 to enter the stream.Beckett previously said the funds to pay for the project will come from Highway Aid.The borough has $75,000 budgeted for the project, she said.
