Schuylkill driver seriously injured

A Schuylkill County driver was seriously injured in a crash along Interstate 81 in Foster Township about 3:29 p.m. on Monday.

State police at Frackville said Karl W. Kramer, 55, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix northbound in front of a 2018 box truck operated by Robert W. Dressler, 82, of Lewisburg, Union County, in the left passing lane. Troopers said Kramer suddenly slowed down, causing Dressler to pass him on the right. As Dressler began to pass Kramer turned sharply to the right and collided with the front left corner of the box truck.After impact both vehicles veered to the right and traveled off the road and down a embankment and into a group of trees. Troopers said the front of the Grand Prix "violently" struck a large tree. The tree pushed into the front of the Grand Prix all the way to the firewall trapping Kramer inside.He was freed by rescue personnel and taken to a nearby landing zone where he was placed in a medical helicopter and flown to the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.Dressler was able to climb out of his vehicle. He sustained suspected minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pottsville Campus. Both vehicles had to be towed.Troopers added that Kramer was cited for the crash.
