A Palmerton man is in jail after a search of his vehicle uncovered weapons and drugs.

Joshua Kresge, 36, faces charges of two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance, and one count each of possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, altered, forged or counterfeit documents and plates, prohibited offensive weapons, flight to avoid apprehension, resisting arrest, DUI, possession of a drug paraphernalia, driving under suspension, and operation of vehicle without official certificate of inspection.According to an affidavit of probable cause filed by borough police officer Sean Leadbetter:At 10:41 a.m. April 6, Leadbetter was on patrol at the intersection of Third Street and Avenue A when he observed a black Jeep Grand Cherokee.Leadbetter saw that the vehicle was being driven by Kresge, who currently had three active warrants for his arrest, along with a suspended Pennsylvania driver's license.Leadbetter attempted to stop the vehicle, but it continued until it came to a stop, at which time Kresge exited the driver side door and a foot pursuit ensued.Kresge ran through a parking lot and up an embankment, which led to railroad tracks.Leadbetter deployed his Taser and Kresge was taken into custody with no further incident.He searched Kresge and found eight packaged clear bags of a substance; 10 packaged blue wax baggies, which tested positive for crystal methamphetamine with a weight total of 4.9 grams; four orange suboxone strips, which Kresge did not have a prescription for; and one used hypodermic needle.Detective Kevin Buck arrived and spoke with the female passenger who was standing outside of the passenger side door, which was open.When Buck turned off the ignition, he saw a glass vial containing a white substance, along with what appeared to be a brass knuckle weapon.The woman told Buck that the items inside the vehicle were Kresge's.Buck secured the Jeep and impounded it.While back at police department headquarters, Kresge showed signs of drug impairment.Drug Recognition Expert Officer Diane O'Brien attempted to conduct a Drug Influence Exam on Kresge, but was unable to finish the exam due to Kresge being uncooperative.O'Brien said that Kresge was showing signs of narcotic use and was transported to Palmerton Hospital for toxicology.Kresge consented to a blood draw, and was then released to Lehigh County Probation on his pending charges with Lehigh County authorities.At 12:15 p.m., Buck served a search warrant on the Jeep at the garage where it was taken. The warrant yielded a CR electric scale, four packaged bags with 2.7 total grams of methamphetamine, paper funnel with black electrical tape, clear bag with rubber bands, blue wax baggies, clear bag containing more bags, two hypodermic needles, five cut straws, one pack of Modesa brand black rubber bands, skull and crossbone grinder, and a black brass knuckle weapon with a knife attached.Kresge is lodged in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 straight bail.He is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing at 9:30 a.m. May 3 before District Judge William Kissner of Palmerton.
