Scranton School for Deaf get $25K grant

The Northeastern Pennsylvania Alliance presented the Scranton School for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Children with a $25,000 Appalachian Regional Commission grant.

NEPA, in coordination with Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and Office of Appalachian Development, assisted the school in grant preparation and recommended the project to ARC for approval.The $25,000 grant, combined with $25,000 in matching funds from the Margaret Briggs Foundation, was used to purchase SMART panels, specialized lighting, computers, a drone, and editing software.The software allows deaf and hard of hearing children to improve their skills using technology, expressive communication skills using American Sign Language, Sign-Supported English, and Spoken English.NEPA is a regional community and economic development agency that serves businesses and non-profit agencies in Carbon, Lackawanna, Luzerne, Monroe, Pike, Schuylkill and Wayne counties.For more information, visit www.nepa-alliance.org or call 866-758-1929.
