Lehighton's Sensinger silences NL

The Lehighton baseball team has been on the diamond quite a bit this week.

With just a 12-man roster, and a pitch count rule working against them, the Indians' coaching staff was hoping for a strong pitching performance from Noah Sensinger on Thursday.Sensinger gave the Indians exactly that.Sensinger's work on the mound, combined with a big game from the offense, helped Lehighton roll to an 11-0 nonleague win over Northern Lehigh."It's a busy week," Lehighton coach Brian Polaha said. "We needed a low-pitch effort with these new pitch count rules. We have 12 guys here. This is all we have. We are not overloaded with pitchers by any means, but we have enough."We needed Noah to be efficient today, so we didn't have to use so many guys. We used three yesterday. We used a bunch Monday. So, it was a significant effort by him."Sensinger went the distance and only needed 52 pitches to get the job done. He didn't strike out a batter, but limited Northern Lehigh to just five singles."We preach 'pitch to contact' and we played pretty good defense behind him," Polaha said. "The last two games we didn't. That's the common denominator in our losses. The first couple games we won, we had one error combined. The last two games, we lost we had about eight or nine errors."And, of course, it allows you to pitch to contact and keep your pitch count down when the defense is making plays behind you."The Lehighton offense exploded in the third and fourth innings.Justin Ahner and Logan Pagotto both helped spark a six-run third inning with back-to-back two-run doubles. In the Indians' five-run fourth inning, Collin Haupt provided a two-run single, Cody Scherer had an RBI single and Donovan Buchinsky drew a bases-loaded walk."You got to give Lehighton credit," Northern Lehigh coach Greg King said. "They came to play today and we didn't. They hit the ball and we didn't."UP AND DOWN THE LINEUP … Eight out of the nine batters in the Indians' lineup had a hit against Northern Lehigh pitchers. Cody Scherer (single, triple, run scored, RBI), Justin Ahner (two doubles, two runs scored, two RBIs) and Pagotto (single, double, two runs scored, two RBIs) all had huge games.ONE HIT AN INNING … Michael Berger recorded the Bulldogs' first hit in the opening frame. Meanwhile, Jacob Kistler, Brandon Hess, pinch hitter Zach Long and Austing Hemingway followed with a single in innings two through five, respectively.UPDATE … Lehighton improves its record to 4-2 overall.
