HARRISBURG (AP) - The next national drug czar is likely to be a Pennsylvania congressman who was an early supporter of President Donald Trump, the head of the Pennsylvania Republican Party said Tuesday.
Party chairman Val DiGiorgio said "any day now" he expects an announcement from the White House that four-term U.S. Rep. Tom Marino has been nominated to be the next director of national drug control policy."He looks likely, based on my conversations with the White House," DiGiorgio said.Marino, who lives outside Williamsport, is a former county prosecutor who served as U.S. attorney in Pennsylvania's Middle District under President George W. Bush.DiGiorgio said Marino would be able to draw from a background in law enforcement and connections in the Capitol. If Trump taps Marino for drug czar, he would be the fifth member of the House to join the administration.Marino, 64,has at times gotten in trouble for his outspokenness. He shouted at protesters at a campaign event in Williamsport, "What do you do for a job?" and "What kind of welfare are you on?"
