Shull-David students back in class after boiler motor overheats

Shull-David Elementary students are back in school after a brief evacuation Tuesday morning.

According to Lehighton Area School District Superintendent Jonathan Cleaver, a motor in the boiler at Shull-David overheated and left an odor of smoke in the building.“The custodian immediately shut down the system and addressed the immediate concerns,” Cleaver said. “The building was evacuated as a precaution and the fire department was contacted and responded immediately.”Students were relocated to the middle school stadium for 35 minutes.The fire department did its review and sweep of the building and gave the “all clear,” according to Cleaver.All students then returned to their assigned classrooms.“I would like to thank the entire staff at Shull-David for keeping the students safe and calm throughout the process,” Cleaver said. “In addition, I would like to thank the Lehighton Fire Department and Fire Chief Pat Mriss, for their assistance and guidance throughout the event.”
