Schuylkill crashes

State police at Frackville reported on three crashes investigated by troopers recently.

• A two-vehicle crash occurred about 7:30 a.m. on April 6 along Main Street in Ringtown. Troopers said Paul Burkoski, 54, of Elysburg, Northumberland County, was driving a 2013 Chrysler 200 westbound when he fell asleep. The Chrysler veered to the right and struck a parked 2002 Subaru Outback. Burkoski was not injured. Both vehicles had to be towed.Troopers cited Burkoski for the crash.• The second crash occurred about 6:04 p.m. on Friday along Interstate 81 in Delano Township. Troopers said Sandra S. Sellers, 62, of Charles Town, West Virginia, was driving a 2016 Nissan northbound when her vehicle struck a deer. Sellers was injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Hazleton Campus by Ryan Township ambulance. The Nissan had to be towed from the scene.• The third crash involved a tractor-trailer and occurred at 6:16 a.m. Saturday along Route 61, just south of the Schuylkill Mall, in Blythe Township. Troopers said Justino Velazaquez, 46, of Camden, New Jersey, was driving a 2017 Freightliner tractor with Hyundai trailer southbound through heavy water runoff which began to freeze. Velazaquez lost control of the rig in a curve due to the ice. The rig went on to the east berm where it struck a series of guide rails. The rig continued south and then jack-knifed and came to final rest in the center median.Velazaquez was not injured. The left lane of the road was closed for about three hours. The rig had to be towed.
