Tamaqua police log

Tamaqua police reported on the following incidents.

• A county domestic relations official was in Tamaqua to pick up Alyssa Bensinger, 28, of 115 Catawissa St. on April 5, on an outstanding warrant. He called Tamaqua Police for assistance when Bensinger fled. Following a foot chase, she was stopped in the area of the railroad tracks between Center and Spruce streets. A black back pack she was carrying was searched and found to contain syringes, a spoon, a shoe lace, cut straws, cotton swabs, five empty blue packets and two baggies containing a white substance. She was transported to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville to answer to the warrant. Bensinger also faces charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.• Police were sent to the 400 block of East Elm Street at 3:31 a.m. April 5, where they found a woman waiting outside. She said she was punched in the mouth by her boyfriend. The boyfriend said he had been sleeping when his girlfriend began lifting his head and shaking it violently. At one point, she clawed his ear, causing a small laceration. He tried to elbow her out of the way, accidentally hitting her in the mouth. Police cited the girlfriend, Melisa Ann Oriel, 43, for harassment.
