Prothonotary's report

A total of 399 cases were started in March in the office of Carbon County Prothonotary Joann M. Behrens, according to a monthly statistical report released by the officeholder. A breakdown of cases is as follows:Civil actions, 28; custody complaints, 17; complaints to modify custody, 11; district justice appeals, 2; divorce complaints, 17; complaints in ejectment, 4; license appeals, 4; mortgage foreclosure complaints, 20; name change petition, 1; protection from abuse petitions, 34; protection from sexual violent individual petition, 1; quiet title actions, 2; zoning appeal, 1; judgments, 212; miscellaneous cases, 4; stipulations/waivers of liens, 2; and writ of executions, 39.The office also processed 250 passport applications and provided assistance to the public with 75 passport renewal applications.Behrens' financial report for March shows $36,846.06 was generated as follows: prothonotary's fees, $31,716.63; interest income, $1.93; custody/divorce fees, $650; PFA Surcharge, Sheriff; $25; PFA Surcharge, Courts, $25; data processing fees, $3,892.50; stenographer fees, $535; and remote access fees, $2,700.The prothonotary also remitted $3,812.37 to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Revenue, representing state fees collected locally, and $51.20 to the Administrative Offices of the Pennsylvania Courts, this being surcharges on new custody cases in accordance with Act 119 of 1996.
