Prison guard, husband face drug charges
A Monroe County Correctional Facility sergeant and her husband were arrested Thursday on a series of drug charges after she dropped a bag of heroin on the floor while entering the facility in Snydersville, triggering a lockdown of the jail and the discovery of a large quantity of heroin in the couple's home in Blakeslee.
Tnishi Antoine, 35, was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge JoLana Krawitz on charges of possession with the intent to deliver a controlled substance (heroin), a second degree felony because it was brought into the prison, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia.She was transported to the Northampton County Correctional Facility by deputies from the Monroe County Sheriff's Department. Her bail was set at $20,000 secured.Her husband, Ronald Brandon, 36, later was charged with possession of a controlled substance (heroin) with the intent to deliver, endangering the welfare of a child, criminal use of a communications facility, possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was temporarily committed at the Monroe County Correctional Facility, pending arraignment and setting of bail.According to a press release by the Monroe County District Attorney's Office, employees of the jail discovered the bag of heroin lying on the floor in the correctional facility's lobby. A review of surveillance footage revealed the bag of heroin was dropped by Antoine as she entered the facility.Detective Kim Lippincott of the DA's office led the investiagtion after the prison warden contacted the Monroe County Drug Task Force requesting assistance.Officials said the jail was put in a complete lockdown and a full search of the prison utilizing drug sniffing dogs from Pocono Mountain Regional Police, Scranton Police and the Pennsylvania State Police took place. During that investigation, police said Antoine was searched and authorities uncovered heroin she had concealed in her bra.Police said because Antoine was working within the prison when taken into custody, the warden and district attorney's office detectives activated a facility lockdown and requested the assistance of Pocono Mountain Regional Police Corporal Matt Nero and his canine partner, Niko. Corporal Nero led the search effort with the assistance of five additional police canine units. The entire facility was searched and no additional contraband was discovered.Police said the woman's vehicle, parked in the facility lot, was searched and additional bags of heroin were recovered next to a large sum of cash. The packaging of the heroin was consistent with the sale and/or distribution of heroin.Further investigation resulted in police obtaining a search warrant for the woman's residence. Upon execution of the warrant, Brandon was found in the residence along with their 18-month-old child. A search of the residence yielded in excess of 50 bags of heroin, a digital scale, packaging material and drug paraphernalia.Monroe County Children & Youth Services took custody of the child and Brandon was taken into custody and charged.Agencies involved in the investigation included members of the Monroe County Correctional Facility, the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Pocono Mountain Regional Police, Pennsylvania State Police, Monroe County Children & Youth, the Monroe County District Attorney's Office, members of the Monroe County Drug Task Force, with assistance from the Scranton Police Department Canine Unit.
