Monroe commissioners adopt revised ordinance

During the regularly scheduled meeting for April, the Monroe County commissioners adopted a revised hotel tax ordinance. The tax will remain at 3 percent, but the new ordinance will permit a greater leeway for reimbursing the county for expenses incurred in the application and collection of the tax.

Ninety percent of the hotel tax is used to fund the Pocono Mountain Visitors Bureau and up to 10 percent is paid to the county to cover the expenses associated with the administration of the tax and for use by the county to help fund historic societies and some countywide attractions. The commissioners also executed the second quarter fiscal report for Children and Youth in the amount of $8,448,561.The commissioners also approved a much greater than usual budget adjustment report dated March 29. The adjustment for the period was $9,928,230. The bulk of the adjustment was for a pass-through grant for the Monroe County Control Center and is actually for use by multiple counties. The grant of $9,250,000 was not accounted for in the approved budget and so the adjustment needed to be made. The balance of the adjustments were adjustments to a number of other departments.
