East Penn Township continues to repair its aging roadways.

Sports Club Road has been changed to a one-lane road while the first phase of repair is completed.Supervisor Steven Heckman said Bake Oven Road will be added to the gravel/dirt project list, starting with “Band-Aid” fixes beginning in the next two weeks.“It will have to be done in stages cause it’s so bad,” he said.Roadmaster Brandon Bradford has completed the standard 90-day probation period and was officially hired to the position during Monday night’s meeting.The proposed township fire tax was discussed.“We had the assessment for the fire safety tax just come in. They want to put it at 3 mills,” said Chairman William Schwab. “That’s a little high.” “That’s the state limit,” said fire Chief Robert Kleintop Jr.“As a member of the fire company I’d be happy, but as a taxpayer I wouldn’t,” he said.Schwab said the tax rate should be set year-to-year, and tabled the matter for later discussion.Schwab said the Wildlands Conservatory is working to acquire 492 acres along the Kittatinny Ridge behind the East Penn Sporting Club.“They want to keep it in its natural state, and it will go to the state game lands. We don’t have to take any action on this,” he said.
