Truck traffic up over Mahoning Township bridge

A Mahoning Township resident has stated his unease with what he said is a huge spike in truck traffic along a bridge in Lehighton.

Colin Rehrig said he's lived on Ashtown Drive in Lehighton since the early 1980s, and added, "I never saw so many tractor-trailers coming through.""That stone bridge, that's a beautiful bridge," Rehrig said. "That road and that bridge isn't made for trucks."Council said it would take the matter under consideration.The borough is accepting bids until 11:59 a.m. April 18 for the Ashtown Drive Bridge Rehabilitation Project on Ashtown Drive. Bids will be opened that day at noon.The bid results and successful bidder will be announced when council meets at 7 p.m. April 24.Borough Manager Nicole Beckett previously said the borough has $75,000 budgeted for the project.
