The Bucket List Book Club will meet at 7 p.m. April 5, at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. The group will review the classic "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn," written in 1943 by Betty Smith.The novel tells the tale of an impoverished Irish-American family during the first two decades of the 20th century.The public is welcome to attend.AuditionsThe next production of the Tamaqua Area Community Theatre will be "Avenue Q," an adult musical comedy featuring the use of puppets.Auditions will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. April 7 and from 8 a.m. to noon April 8 at the Tamaqua Community Art Center, 125 Pine St. Call backs will be 2 to 4 p.m. April 9. Anyone planning to audition should come prepared to sing and read a monologue. Some, but not all, of the roles will require learning puppetry.The comedy is based on a book written by Jeff Whitty, with music and lyrics by Jeff Marx and Robert Lopez. Show dates will be June 9 and 10.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met March 30 with 64 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and provided the inspirational reading "God Sprinkled Springtime."Darlene Skasko and Helene Kellner were added to the sick list. Several prizes were awarded to members, including an Easter wreath, an M & I Deli gift certificate and a basket.Members were updated on a current Medicare scam targeting older Americans.Upcoming events include: trip to the Dutch Way Restaurant in Myerstown on April 17; guest speaker on Medicare on April 20.The group is open to anyone 55 or older. Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services this Palm Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Sunday school classes meet at 9:15 a.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer gathering at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m., worship team practice at 8 p.m.: Maundy Thursday, service at 7 p.m., worship team leaders meet at 8 p.m.; Good Friday Tenebrae Service at 7 p.m.Easter Sunday services will be held at 8 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and at 2:30 p.m. at the Hometown Nursing Center.Calvary ECThe Rev. Phillip Sabas will officiate at the 10:25 a.m. worship service this Palm Sunday in Calvary United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley.
