The Mondaymeeting of the Palmerton Area Historical Society will feature a talk by Kathy Augustine on the history of silk. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Knight's Gallery of the Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave. The public is invited to attend without cost or obligation.Heritage centerThe current exhibit in the feature room at the Palmerton Heritage Center consists of artifacts relating to World War I. 2017 is the hundredth anniversary of the United States' entry in the war. Bob Dunn has graciously loaned his collection to the Heritage Center for this exhibit. The center at 410 Delaware Ave. is open at various hours Wednesday through Saturday each week. Phone 610-824-6954 for a recording listing the hours. Or simply try the door; if it is open someone will be there to show you around. April 13, Maundy Thursday Service and First Holy Communion will be at 7:30 p.m. Good Friday Tenebrae Service will be at 7:30 p.m.Jerusalem UCCJerusalem UCC, 545 Church Road, will hold Palm Sunday services at 9 and 10:30 a.m. Maundy Thursday Taize service is 7 p.m. April 13. Good Friday Tenebrae is 7 p.m. April 14. Easter Sunday 7 a.m. sunrise service is in the grove. Sanctuary services are at 9 and 10:30 a.m. with Communion. A free coffee and friends table is between the 9 and 10:30 services.Palmerton LibraryThe second week of April is celebrated as National Library Week across the country. The Palmerton Area Library, 402 Delaware Ave., will celebrate the whole month of April with exciting events and programs. Spring computer classes are ongoing now. Call the library at 610-826-3424 for information.April will be "Food for Fines" month at the library. Donate one nonperishable food item in place of each $1 owed on fines. Eliminate all your late fees and feed the hungry at the same time. All donated food items will be given to the CACPAC food pantry in Palmerton. Last April the library filled three grocery carts with food for the pantry. Please consider donating for the food pantry even if you have no fines.During the month of April the library will host a $2 Bag Sale in the Basement Book Sale. Stop in and pick up a plastic grocery bag at the checkout desk. Fill it with any items from the sale including books, movies, games and puzzles and pay only $2 for the whole bag. New items arrive daily. This fantastic opportunity will last for the whole month.Check the library website at
