Downed tree cuts power to homes in Slatington

Power has been restored to nearly 100 Slatington area homes after a large tree fell and took electric lines down with it Tuesday night.

The power went out around 8:22 p.m. and affected 98 customers in the southern portion of the borough, according to Carol Obando-Derstine, regional affairs director for PPL Electric Utilities.By 9:54 p.m., 96 of the customers had their power restored, while the other two had theirs back by 12:41 this morning, Obando-Derstine said.She said a tree fell on a pole, which damaged a transformer and caused the line to come down.
