State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said a 34-year-old woman from Brodheadsville is out $3,600 after having been the victim of a theft/fraud case. The incident was reported to police at 5 p.m. March 10.
The woman said she was hired online to work for a company identified as Household Export Services, New York, New York, and was told her "job" was to evaluate different companies by purchasing gift cards from various stores. Police said the victim was instructed to purchase the gift cards by using her personal credit card and scan them to the company. After the card information was received, her "employer" was to reimburse the woman and pay her for her services, she told police.The woman said that after the cards were scanned, the transactions were canceled.
