Ex-coach charged with sexual assault

A former assistant wrestling coach at a Monroe County school has been charged with sexually assaulting two of his players over a period of time.

Following a preliminary hearing on the charges held Friday, all counts were certified to court.State police at Swiftwater charged Ron Gorman, 51, now of Marietta, Georgia, with 15 counts of sexual assault. The charges include rape, involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, statutory sexual assault, unlawful contact with a minor and indecent assault.According to the affidavit of probable cause, troopers became aware of an investigation occurring in Georgia regarding Gorman. The investigation involved allegations of inappropriate behavior of a sexual nature between Gorman, who was a wrestling coach, and juvenile wrestlers.Gorman formerly resided in East Stroudsburg and was an assistant wrestling coach at Stroudsburg area youth wrestling.In the course of the investigation troopers interviewed two victims, now age 20, concerning the allegations and their relationship with Gorman while they were wrestlers in the program during the period of 2006 to 2009. Both men admitted that Gorman had sexual relations with them. The two said they were between the ages of 10-15 at the time.The incidents occurred at Gorman's home at the time in Penn Estates in Stroud Township, a residence across the street, and when the defendant would have the two victims fly to Georgia and visit him. The two said the sexual encounters would occur after Gorman's family went to sleep.The two said Gorman provided them with gifts and told them not to tell anyone. They also said during the time the incidents occurred Gorman said he only did the sex acts with them and no one else and that "he loved them."The troopers conducted the interviews on Feb. 15, and March 6 and 27.Gorman is an inmate in the county prison, unable to post $1 million bail.
