West End park plans 'spring cleaning'

Every year as part of celebrating Earth Day, communities throughout Pennsylvania plan events that are meant to rid areas of debris and litter. This year the West End Regional Park is taking part in the Great American Cleanup by holding a cleanup on April 8.

Park director Bernie Kozen is looking for volunteers to join in and to help to clean up the park and get it ready for the season."The volunteers will meet at the park at 578 Evergreen Hollow Road, in Brodheadsville," said Kozen. "Gloves, vests and bags will be provided."The volunteers will gather at the pavilion adjacent to the Dave Fleetwood Memorial Trail at 9 a.m."Everybody will meet and be assigned an area to cover," Kozen said. "The more volunteers, the sooner we will be done."Most communities schedule events to coincide with Earth Day, which is April 22. According to Kozen the county is holding its Earth Day events on that day, so the park decided to plan its event earlier in the month. The next event to take place at the park will the "5K9 Walk/Run" scheduled for May 6. The walk/run will raise money for the new dog park that will be added to the regional park.
