State Senate bills At a glance

Here is a snapshot of the four bills introduced Tuesday by Pennsylvania senators to curb domestic violence.

• Senate Bill 501 (Sen. Thomas H. Killion, R-9) enhances safety for all parties involved in Protection From Abuse orders and convictions of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence that require relinquishment of firearms.• Senate Bill 500 (Sen. Randy Vulakovich, R-38) provides that protection would be made available to a victim; and that someone will accompany the victim to her or his home before or while the petition and orders are being served, if she or he says that such assistance is necessary to protect her or his safety.• Senate Bill 502 (Sen. Thomas J. McGarrigle, R-26) specifies that the court may extend the terms of an existing order or issue a new order in certain circumstances.• Senate Bill 449 (Sen. Camera C. Bartolotta, R-46) "Tierne's Law," clarifies that district judges may, in cases of domestic violence, use a risk assessment tool to determine whether a defendant poses a danger to a victim when determining bail.- Chris Parker
