Two lucky female high school seniors - one from Tamaqua and the other from Marian - will be the recipients of scholarships to pursue their professional careers after graduation.

The scholarships will be distributed when the Tamaqua Business and Professional Women's Club holds a Pallet Paint and Sip at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the East End Fire Company in Tamaqua.There is a $35 cost to attend. Seating is limited, so those who plan to attend should contact Cindy Sabol at 570-386-2017 to make reservations.All proceeds from the fundraiser will go toward the two scholarships, said Jennifer Drake, president of the Tamaqua Business and Professional Women's Club.All the supplies, such as the paint, brushes, and the pallets, will be provided at the event, which is open to men and women. Snacks will be provided, and attendees may bring their favorite beverage.Drake said the group has always given one scholarship to a young woman in the Tamaqua school district who will be pursing a career after graduation."We are doing a fundraiser to benefit this scholarship fund," Drake said. "This year, we are proud and pleased to be offering two scholarships, one for Tamaqua and one for Marian."Drake said a list of criteria has been established, as they work closely with the guidance counselor at each school to determine which girl will receive the scholarship.Those who attend the event will be able to customize their pallet for their home décor and may take home the pallet that evening, she said.Drake said this year marks the organization's 70th birthday."We invite everyone to come out for a good time for a great cause," she said. "It helps us as the Professional Women's Club to give back to the community for which we were established 70 years ago."Drake said the group hopes to build off this year's event, and possibly offer a third scholarship in the future.The Tamaqua Business and Professional Women's Club, founded in 1947, is marking its 70th year as a club."We continue to support state and local projects," she said.
