Faith-paced walkers organizational meeting tonight

Spring is sprung, and it's time to get out and enjoy some exercise with the Faith-Paced Walker's Club in Weissport.

But before you strap on your sneakers and hit the pavement, make sure to swing by the organizational meeting for the club at 6:30 tonight at Anita Wisler's home. The group, led by Wisler, is celebrating its fourth year of bringing neighbors together for a positive activity."We started out about four years ago. I had just retired, and my goal was to do something good in my neighborhood, Weissport," Wisler said. The result was the Faith-Paced Walker's Club, where group members come together every Tuesday and Thursday in the fall and spring at the Weissport Canal to foster good relations within the community, and to encourage a good workout."Health is wealth. That's kind of our motto," Wisler said. This season's theme for the group is "Cheering You On.""Last year, we had a song we would sing before the walk, and this year we wrote our own little cheer," Wisler said. This year's spring session will run from May 2 to June 29, culminating in a special event to close out the season."We always close with a brunch at the pavilion after our last walk," Wisler said. "We give out little awards, like perfect attendance for going to every walk, along with other prizes."Registration, which is free, runs from 7:15 a.m. to 7:45 a.m., with each walk kicking off at 8 a.m. Wisler said that the group attracts about 30 to 40 people per walk, ranging from babies in strollers to people in their 80s.Anyone wishing to help with the group or register for walks is encouraged to join the crew tonight. Call Wisler ahead of time at 610-377-5395 for details."We need to stay healthy so we can come together as a community and make things better," Wisler said.
