Weatherly area alumni association directors meet

The Weatherly Area High School Alumni Association board of directors met March 16.

President Todd Gimbi called the meeting to order. The 11 members in attendance each received a note pad and pen.Gimbi welcomed Dr. Katie Leach, teacher of gifted students for Weatherly Area School District. Dr. Leach demonstrated the newly purchased Zortrax M200 3D Printer that the association donated toward and thanked the association for its funding to various school projects over the past 25 years.A moment of silence was held for deceased members Eugene O'Neill, Doris Hagenbach and Laura Richie.The minutes of the January meeting were read by Yvonne Felker and approved. The treasurer's report was given by Sue Ann Gerhard and was also reviewed and approved.Gimbi reported the current membership is at 616. Felker reported that the annual Memorial Day Dinner and general membership meeting will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 29 at Salem United Church of Christ in the social room. Tickets are $14. Reservation forms will be sent in the April Newsletter.Gimbi announced the scholarship committee would now be chaired by Gerhard.Gerhard announced that Theresa D'Andrea will fill the vacant seat of her late husband, Joseph, and Barbara Sandt would fill the vacancy of Bette Rambaran. Gimbi thanked outgoing chairwoman, Rambaran for her work on the Scholarship Committee.Gerhard also announced the dates of May 11 and 12 for the 2017 scholarship interviews.Gimbi thanked the Weatherly Area School Board for its approval of the association's 25th anniversary dinner to be held Oct. 8 in the district's cafeteria with guided tours of the three school buildings by the faculty. General membership will be notified of the details in the July newsletter.After adjourning, those present were presented with a 3D rose created by Dr. Leach on the new 3D printer. Refreshments were served by Jane Suitch.The next meeting will be in the Weatherly Area Community Library at 7 p.m. June 15. Tom Connors, mayor of Weatherly will be the guest speaker.
