The second week of April is celebrated as National Library Week across the country, and Palmerton Area Library plans to celebrate the whole month.

April will be "Food for Fines" month at the library. Donate one nonperishable food item in place of each $1 owed in fines. Eliminate late fees and feed the hungry at the same time.All donated food items will be given to the Christian Action Council of Palmerton Area Churches food pantry in Palmerton. Last year, the library filled three grocery carts.No fines? No problem. Donations for the food pantry will still be accepted."The Shakespearience: Lyrical Lines & Leading Ladies" is this year's annual spring concert. It will be held at 7 p.m. on April 21 in the upstairs gallery.This concert will feature Mandy Brown accompanied by Sherry Freund and will feature settings of Shakespeare's texts in art song as well as opera arias.The program explores a spectrum of musical styles and languages, which showcase some of his most beloved female characters.This program is free and open to the public.On the heels of the concert is the annual Photography Show. It will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on April 23 in the gallery. The Friends of the Library will provide refreshments during the show.Anyone interested in entering photos in the show should contact the library at 610-826-3424.During the show, those in attendance will be able to vote for their favorite photo. A Peoples' Choice award (cash prize) will be sponsored by the Friends of the Library.The library will host a $2 bag sale in the basement book sale throughout April.Stop in, pick up a plastic grocery bag at the front desk, and fill it with books, movies, games and puzzles from the basement book sale.
