Tamaqua Borough Council voted to bid the garbage contract, which will be expiring in June.
Council has the option of extending the current contract, with County Waste of Tremont for one year, but after much discussion, decided to put the contract out for bid.Borough Manager Kevin Steigerwalt provided an update on snow removal within the borough, saying that the borough hoped to finish up within the next few days.He also reminded residents that the garbage pickup was delayed one week due to the storm, and asked for people's patience as picking up two week's worth of garbage was taking longer than normal.Councilman Ron Bowman complimented the borough work force on its proactivity on the snow removal project."I see them out there on their own time, looking around to see what can be done next," he said.Council also approved a handicap parking space for 305 Spruce St.
