Two first-time defendants in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Tuesday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.

If they successfully complete all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. They did not admit guilt in entering the program.The two were placed for a year on driving under the influence charges.Bradford David Powell, 21, of Palmerton, was arrested on Oct. 16, 2016, along Route 248 by Palmerton Police. A test revealed a 0.25 BAC.Powell was ordered to pay a $450 assessment fee for the cost of the program, render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 90 days.John Richard Sharbaugh, 57, of Lehighton, was arrested on Nov. 25, 2016, by state police at Lehighton after being involved in an accident. A test revealed a 0.11 BAC.Sharbaugh was ordered to pay a $500 assessment fee, render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.Both were also ordered to pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program and follow all recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
