One successful raffle fundraiser equals a hand up for area veterans.

The Palmerton Rod and Gun Club gave a check this week in the amount of $5,231 to the Valor Clinic Foundation of Jonas.The club sold a 31-day gun raffle fundraiser in January, with all of the proceeds from the ticket raffle being donated to the Valor Clinic.The Valor Clinic Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides help throughout the area for veterans and families in need.The organization, founded in 2012, has approximately 50 volunteers.The two major Valor projects are Veterans Unstoppable and Hope for the Homeless.The clinic provides a program for veterans who have difficulty with drugs, health issues or are homeless to get back their lives. Recent statistics showed that 45 out of 50 have successfully completed the program guidelines the organization has set in motion."We are so very gratefully for your continued support over the year," Valor coordinator Mike Meining said. "We could not do what we do without your help.""In our organization 93 cents out of every dollar donated goes to the veterans. Only 7 cents will go to the organization," assistant Valor coordinator Alan Pearson said.Once a month the organization helps the homeless in East Stroudsburg, Allentown and Bethlehem by bringing them food, clothing and other supplies.
