Three defendants in pending drug-related cases entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Tuesday.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted pleas from the following:Alyssa Marie Gruber, 26, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance - heroin.She was arrested on Feb. 4, 2016, following a traffic stop by Lansford police. She was a passenger in the vehicle and found to have two packets of heroin.She told Matika she was homeless at the time and had been for several months. She is currently an inmate in the county prison and previously spent time in the Schuylkill County prison.Matika sentenced her to time-served (20 days) to one year in jail, and ordered her to both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, follow all recommendations for treatment, and render 50 hours of community service. She must also submit to a pre-parole plan, for which she must have an approved residence to live before being released from prison. The adult probation office must approve the residence.James Scott McMurray, 35, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Jan. 21 in the 100 block of South West Alley by Lehighton police.A charge of corruption of a minor was dropped in a plea bargain. The police report indicated that charge was filed because McMurray allegedly provided a 17-year-old female, who was found at the scene, with illegal drugs.McMurray, who is currently an inmate in the county prison, had his sentencing deferred because he has seven more pending criminal cases.Cory Scott Coons, 29, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. A charge of possession of a controlled substance was dropped in a plea bargain.He was arrested on Nov. 28by state police at Fern Ridge in the 100 block of Yellow Run Road in Penn Forest Township. He is currently an inmate in the county prison serving a DUI sentence.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, render 50 hours of community service and zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use. The term runs concurrent with the DUI sentence.Gruber and Coons must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation/parole.
