Carbon County court - DUI

A Carbon County woman pleaded guilty on Tuesday in the county court to two counts of driving under the influence.

She was one of four defendants in pending DUI cases to enter a plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.Tricia Gayle McGarvin, 56, of Palmerton, pleaded to one count of DUI for an incident on Feb. 15, 2016, along Route 443 filed by Lehighton police. She was stopped for erratic driving. A test revealed a 0.20 BAC.On June 3,she was stopped by state police at Lehighton along Route 248 at Parryville for speeding. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.She faces a year in jail for the second DUI conviction, which is her third overall. Sentencing was deferred so she could apply for placement in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program - house arrest.Other pleasChristopher Robert Bush, 48, of Kunkletown, was arrested on Sept. 28along Hahns Dairy Road in Lower Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton, after being involved in a one-vehicle crash. A test revealed a 0.19 BAC.Matika sentenced him to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, license suspended for a year, render 25 hours of community service, pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole and follow all recommendations of his drug and alcohol evaluation.He will begin the jail term at 7 p.m. March 31.Eric Michael Kester, 31, of Parryville, was arrested on Dec. 7along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East in Lehighton by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred.Troy Terry Kidd Jr., 27, of Palmerton, was arrested on Jan. 10, 2016, at Delaware Avenue and Third Street by Palmerton police. He pleaded to driving under suspension-DUI related.Sentencing was deferred.
