Fire call at Split Rock

A 911 call went out on Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. for an incident involving the 30,000-gallon propane tank used by the H2O water park at Split Rock Resort.

The Lake Harmony Volunteer Fire Company responded to the resort to find that the automatic safety features built into the system had already eliminated any possiblity of the problem getting out-of-hand.“We understand that an employee had spotted something and reported it.” said Lake Harmony Fire Chief Ralph Lennon. “There was some type of leak in the system and the liquid propane had come in contact with an open flame.”“The system is designed to follow it back to the source. It shut itself down.”According to Lennon, the system has redundent safety features and there is very little chance of anything catastrophic happening.“At this point the gas company will come out and do their part,” Lennon said. “They will repair and replace and test and inspect and get everything back up to snuff.”The gas company was on scene by 2:05 p.m.
