Tamaqua man will face trial for alleged shooting

Tamaqua resident Charles Heffelfinger Jr. will go to trial in connection with a Feb. 12 shooting in the borough.

On Tuesday, Judge Stephen Bayer determined there was enough evidence for Heffelfinger, 23, to face an attempted homicide charge for allegedly shooting another man after an argument in the early hours of Feb. 12.

The alleged victim, Gary Reidel, testified at Tuesday's hearing that he was shot in the back after an argument outside of Heffelfinger's home on Orwigsburg Street. Just prior to the shooting, Reidel and another man had driven Heffelfinger's father home from a bar where they all had been drinking.

Heffelfinger allegedly told police later that night that he had shot Reidel, and allowed them to take the 9mm Smith & Wesson handgun believed to have been used.

Outside the courtroom, his father said that the truth would come out at trial.

In addition to attempted homicide, Heffelfinger faces two counts of aggravated assault and simple assault.

He is currently free on $75,000 bail.
