2 killed in crash in Schuylkill

Two people were killed, including a 7-year-old boy, in a two-vehicle crash around 12:30 p.m. Saturday in Schuylkill County.

State police at Schuylkill Haven said the crash occurred at the intersection of Route 61 and Market Street in North Manheim Township.Troopers did not give any details on how the crash occurred.Troopers identified the victims as Mark Naftzinger, 57, of New Ringgold, and said the young boy was from Pottsville. His name was not released by troopers, but according to a GoFundMe account set up by the family, his name was Gage R. Evans.Others involved in the crash were Lauren Bechtel, 31, of Pottsville, who was the driver of a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu in which the young boy was a passenger. Passengers with Naftzinger included Robin Naftzinger, 59, of New Ringgold, and Margaret Bair, 83, of Orwigsburg. They were in a 2013 Subaru XV crossover. Troopers did not indicate if any of the other people involved were injured.Troopers said the investigation into the crash is continuing.Lori Sholley Bechtel set up a GoFundMe account to raise money for the funeral expenses of her grandson and the medical expenses of his mother, Lauren, who was also injured in the crash.As of Monday morning, $16,500 had been raised.To donate, visit
