Monroe commissioners recognize events

At Wednesday's morning meeting, the Monroe County commissioners signed proclamations recognizing March 16 as Foster Parent's Appreciation Day, March 30 as

C.A.S.U.A.L. Day for Colon Cancer Awareness and April 4 as a Day of Recognition for National Service for the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program.Additionally, April will be Sexual Assault Awareness Month. The commissioners also recognized the Monroe County Women's Commission "Honoring Trailblazing Women in Labor and Business for 2017. This year the commission is honoring Dr. Andrea McLaren, Dr. Karin Susan Breitlauch, Rosemary Dreibe Olofsson, Virginia Kirkwood, Gina Bertucci, Ann Catrillo and Donna Zlocki.The commissioners also approved the use of Courthouse Square for the Women's Resources of Monroe County's annual "Take Back the Night" program.In county business the commissioners executed purchase of services agreements for the Monroe County Children and Youth agency for July 2016 through June 2017 in the following amounts:• Glen Mills School - contract limit of $400,000• The Impact Project Inc. - contract limit of $40,000• Cornell Abraxas Group Inc. - contract limit of $830,000Approval was made for the advertisement for a number of bids: Bridge deck cleaning and vegetation control program for 2017-19, bridge maintenance program, and for ombudsman services for the Department of Aging Department.A contract was ratified with Midatlantic Engineering to perform a geotechnical study of soils around the courthouse and on a vacant lot in the city. The commissioners also ratified the collective bargaining agreement with the Teamsters Local 773 Professional Court Related Unit for the period of January 2015 through December 2018.The county will also administer a grant in the amount of $9,246,324.95 as part of the 911 Statewide Interconnectivity Funding Grant Agreement with the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency. The grant will be used to enhance and maintain infrastructure interconnectivity for a seven county region.In other businessThe commissioners acknowledged receipt of the 2016 Planning Commission Annual Report and adopted a "Disposal of Media Policy and Procedures." The policy spells out the proper methods of disposing of sensitive materials related to law enforcement.Laurene Cossey and Eugene Pelletreau were reappointed to the Carbon, Monroe, Pike Mental Health Developmental Service Advisory Board through March 2020. Marie Picon, Jennifer Strauch, Karl Davis and Robert Ruiz were appointed to the Monroe Pike Community Services Advisory Board with terms to expire on Dec. 31, 2019. Christine Meinhart was reappointed to the same board.
