In a joint effort with Pennsylvania's Advanced Training and Hiring, Lehigh Carbon Community College now offers short-term programs to assist students in learning the wide range of career skills available in the healthcare field.
All classes are held at the Donley Center, LCCC Allentown, unless noted otherwise. Most class fees are offered at a reduced rate through PATH grant funds. Programs lead to an industry certification test in each of the related fields.In an introductory course, students will explore career goals and develop a personal healthcare career pathway. This class, held April 4 and 6 from 6 to 9 p.m., includes building an awareness of allied health resources.Topics include understanding the importance of effective communication, workplace safety and core qualities needed to be an effective health care professional.Careers in nurse aide, pharmacy technician, healthcare administrative assistant and EKG technician will be explored. Cost is $40.EKG Technician and CPR Training offer a class at LCCC Tamaqua on Tuesdays and Thursdays, April 18 through June 8, from 9 a.m. to noon. Cost is $901.Students will develop an understanding of the legal and ethical standards of health care medical terminology; residents' rights and independence; infection control; and functions of human body systems with the Nurse Aide Certificate program, offered Monday through Thursday, March 13 through May 4, from 4 to 9:30 p.m. Cost is $1,251.Health Care Administrative Assistant Certificate course will be held May 22 through Aug. 8, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and prepares students to work in non-patient contact health care positions.
