Blue Mountain Health System wants kids to be safe and healthy in their everyday activities.

To help students be the best they can be, the hospital is hosting its 28th annual Children's Health Fair on April 21 at the Lehighton Recreational Center, Eighth and Iron streets, Lehighton. This year's theme is "Trolls.""This should be fun," Mary Lou McGeehan, community education coordinator at Blue Mountain Health System, said.The fair is geared toward students in kindergarten through second grade. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.McGeehan said that all the schools have been invited and there normally is a very good turnout.Topics typically covered include tobacco and substance abuse prevention, fitness and exercise, nutrition, self-esteem, stranger danger, heart health animal safety and more.Registration is required to attend.For more information, call McGeehan at 610-377-7070 or email

mmcgeehan@blmtn.org.Other programsIn addition, the health system is also planning a few other events geared toward people's health and Medicare.On April 29, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Blue Mountain Health System Palmerton campus, 135 Lafayette Ave., a spring health fair will be held in partnership with the Palmerton Lions Club.The event will include health screenings, information and education, a light lunch and promotional giveaways and door prizes.The health system, in collaboration with the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging are also hosting two New to Medicare sessions for those beginning the Medicare process for the first time. Sessions will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. on March 28 at the Bowmanstown Medical Plaza, 512 Bank St., Bowmanstown; and 6 to 7 p.m. on March 29 in the community room at Blue Mountain Health System's Gnaden Huetten campus, 211 N. 12th St., Lehighton.The program aims to help a person better understand Medicare and its parts and find what works for them.For more information or to register, call or email McGeehan.
