Two from Nesquehoning are facing drug charges

Two Nesquehoning residents face drug charges after the fire department was called to their apartment building.

Crystal L. Miller, 37, and Jesse Steigerwalt, 29, both of West Garibaldi Avenue, are charged with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia. Miller also faces a charge of tampering with evidence. On Jan. 29, Nesquehoning police were dispatched with the fire department to an apartment on West Garibaldi Avenue for a fire alarm. When Officer Timothy Wuttke responded, Steigerwalt was standing with the door to the apartment building open. Wuttke asked if the alarm was coming from inside. Steigerwalt replied that it was, but added that it wasn't coming from his apartment.Wuttke asked if he could look inside the apartment.Inside, Wuttke smelled marijuana and noticed young children inside with a woman, later identified as Miller. He asked Steigerwalt if they were smoking marijuana and both he and Miller denied it and said they didn't know why there was a smell.Steigerwalt finally admitted using marijuana and led Wuttke into a bedroom where Miller was putting items in a plastic bag, which included a small amount of marijuana, a glass smoking pipe, scale and other drug paraphernalia. Both Steigerwalt and Miller face preliminary hearings before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek on April 12.
