The East Penn Township board of supervisors will be giving residents a chance to get some spring cleaning done in May.

During the monthly meeting, supervisors Steven Heckman and Alice Berger presented the board with a list of materials that will be accepted during the annual cleanup day to be held in May."We are trying to clean up the township," Heckman said."Every week when the road crew goes out to do reviews and surveys, there are televisions and tires on the roadways."Residents can bring up to two televisions and four passenger car tires for the cleanup day set for 8 a.m. to 1

p.m.May 20at the East Penn Township Municipal Building. The following weekend has been designated as a "Freecycle" day. Residents can bring gently used items to the municipal building between 8 a.m. and noonMay 27."These items will be separated and put aside. Residents can come and take any three items for free. Anything left over will be donated to charities," Heckman said."This will be the first time, and I think it's something residents will see a positive in and will want to do more often.""If someone has children with a playhouse or things like that, maybe are still in good shape, we'll take them," Berger said."Sometime people put those things in the garbage, but why do that if someone else can still use them?" she said.Items that will not be accepted during either date are household garbage, building or demolition waste, pesticides, herbicides or any other hazardous materials, auto parts, glass or paint cans.Heckman also updated the board on the progress of Sportsclub Road, stating that six of the seven drainage pipes have already been installed."We need to finish putting in the last pipe and then start phase two," he said.He said a mixture similar to blacktop will be laid over the span of roadway after the completion of the pipes.Board Chairman William Schwab addressed the speed limit signs for Wertman Hollow Road, saying the township would place caution signs."We've had complaints that people are speeding on that road," he said."I think the road crew can put up the caution signs, but it's not for tickets. I'm not big on spending money on an engineer for signs that can't be enforced," he said."It can't be enforced, but if there's an accident there, it will be looked into," Berger said.Once the clocks spring ahead on Sunday, the road crew will change its workweek to four 10-hour days.Marvin Hunsicker has been hired to join the township's road crew as a full-time worker to beginMonday, along with Keith House, who will also serve as park ranger/park maintenance in addition to his road work duties for 10 to 12 hours a week from spring to fall.Walter Hoster will join House in park maintenance for the summer season. The township recreation board will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt at the Ashfield Playground on April 1, starting at 1 p.m.
