Tamaqua man arrested on warrant, had drugs

Tamaqua police have picked up a man on a warrant for failing to appear in court and found he was in possession of drugs.

George Cope (left), 30, of Tamaqua, was arraigned before District Magisterial Judge Stephen Bayer on Monday morning.Cope was picked up by Tamaqua Police on an outstanding bench warrant issued by Schuylkill County officials after he failed to appear for his trial on drug related charges.When taken into custody, Cope had a large folding knife and a large zipper baggie containing a total of 14.8 grams of a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.Cope was arraigned on additional charges of possession with intent to deliver, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia filed by Tamaqua Patrolman Rick Bekesy.The judge set bail at $50,000 straight cash. Cope was then transported to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville by Schuylkill County Detective Dennis Clark.
