Registration open for Hippie Run/Walk
Runners and walkers of all abilities are invited to get out their tie dye and get on the trail for the annual Hippie Run, which benefits the Carbon Chamber and Economic Development Corporation.
The fourth annual 5K Earth Day Hippie Run/Walk takes place April 22 at the D & L Trailhead in Lehighton. The trailhead is located at 200 Main Lane, near Sgt. Stanley Hoffman Boulevard.Teams are encouraged. Special rates for teams with a maximum number of 5 participants at $50 per team.Runners and walkers are encouraged to dress like hippies — with awards for the best-dressed.Preregistration for the race, including a T-shirt, is $15 for adults and $10 for kids K-12 through March 31.Participants can register online at
www.carboncountychamber.org or by contacting CCEDC at 610-379-5000.After March 31, registration is $20 for adults and $10 for kids.T-shirts are only guaranteed through March 31.The day of the race, registration will open at 8:30 a.m. at the trailhead pavilion.There are two kids fun runs: one at 10 a.m. for students up to grade 3, and one at 10:15 a.m. for students in grades 4 and up.The 5K run starts at 10:30 a.m.Participants are asked to share posts from the Hippie Run for a chance to win a chair massage provided by Jim Thorpe Massage and Wellness. Medals will be awarded to the first three finishers in each category.The 5K Earth Day Hippy Run/Walk came about as a project of the 2014 Leadership Carbon class. Each year a portion of the proceeds help fund the Chamber’s scholarship fund.Scholarships are awarded to a graduating high school senior from one of Carbon County’s high schools and CCTI who are involved in business clubs at school, or are pursuing postsecondary education in a business-related field.
