Two vehicle stopson I-80 lead to arrests

Two vehicle stops along Interstate 80 in Carbon County over the weekend have led to drug charges being filed against the drivers.

State police at Fern Ridge said Khalil Quran Al Aleem-Brown, 24, of Philadelphia, was stopped at 9:13 p.m. on Saturday in Kidder Township for an equipment violation involving window tint. At the stop troopers detected indicators of criminal activity and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle, a 2012 Honda Civic.Found in the trunk was a plastic bag containing 36 plastic vials of suspected marijuana. Also, Aleem-Brown was found to be driving under the influence of a controlled substance. He was placed under arrest and taken for a blood test. DUI and related drug charges will be filed.The second stop occurred at 9:31 a.m. on Sunday in East Side Borough. Jose Alberto Echevarria, 38, of Allentown, was stopped for speeding. Troopers detected indicators of criminal activity and conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle. About three pounds of marijuana was found inside a backpack in the third row seat of the vehicle. He was taken into custody and charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and related drug charges.He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning after failing to post bail.
