Tamaqua Area School Board also took the following action recently:
• Hired Jamie Applegate as a full-time custodian.• Approved the resignation of Joelle Simmons, full-time custodian, effective Jan. 12, 2017.• Approved the resignation of Rosemary Deren, substitute custodian, effective the end of the day Feb. 3, 2017.• Hired Alexa Hromyak as a substitute custodian.• Hired Megan Majetsky as a special education teacher, Master's Step 1, $43,975.• Approved Stephanie Basile, Alycia Gerber, Emily Grube, Theodore Smith, and Haley Wiscount as professional substitute guest teachers.• Accepted the resignation of Colleen Barrett, part-time paraprofessional, effective Feb. 10, 2017.• Approved Cindy Dover from a part-time paraprofessional to a full-time paraprofessional, effective Feb. 22, 2017.• Approved Mary Kocha from a substitute paraprofessional to a full-time paraprofessional, effective Feb. 22, 2017.• Approved Emma Whelski and Jennifer Puckette as part-time paraprofessionals, effective Feb. 22, 2017.• Acknowledged that Anthony Cheehan, professional employee, has successfully completed three years of service with satisfactory ratings given in each semester, and should be given professional status as of Oct. 19, 2016.• Acknowledged that Shane McCabe, professional employee, has successfully completed three years of service with satisfactory ratings given in each semester, and should be given professional status as of Dec. 21, 2016.• Appointed Larry Wittig as the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit No. 29 board member from July 1to June 30, 2020.• Approved the Schoology 18-month agreement, hosting the district's virtual learning environment, serving grades 3 through 12, at a cost of $12,000.• Approved the 2017-18 Schuylkill Technology Center budget.• Approved the 2017-18 Schuylkill Training Center budget.• Approved the expulsion of a student for the violation of a policy.• Authorized the district's business manager to execute an underground stormwater draining easement with Rush Township.• Authorized the district's business manager to execute one temporary easement with the state Department of Transportation, per the resolution, referencing parcel number 53.• Authorized the district's business manager to execute one temporary easement with the state Department of Transportation, per the resolution, referencing parcel number 55.• Authorized Portnoff Law Associates to schedule a list of properties for Sheriff's Sale.• Granted approval for the Raider Band to hold its Christmas party at Capriotti's on Dec. 9.• Approved a budget meeting on March 14, immediately following the board's committee meeting, with March 15 as the make up date in the event of bad weather.• Approved an Act 80 day on Feb. 17, 2017, for kindergarten and kindergarten plus only.• Approved early graduation for one student.• Approved homebound instruction for two students.
