Save Carbon County will hold a rally at 5:30 p.m. today at the East Gate to Split Rock Resort, just before the public hearing for the PennEast pipeline.

Linda Christman, president of the group formed to fight the PennEast pipeline, said the location was changed because the resort would not allow the group to rally at the Town Center.The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection is soliciting comments on the proposed air quality plan approval for the construction and operation of the proposed PennEast compressor station in Kidder Township.The public hearing is from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Split Rock Resort Lodge's Keystone Grand Ballroom.The 118-mile PennEast natural gas pipeline is projected to run through Lower Towamensing, Towamensing, Kidder and Penn Forest townships in Carbon County on its way from Wilkes-Barre to New Jersey.The Kidder Township Zoning Hearing Board granted a conditional approval to the special exception application of PennEast for a compressor station in the township.The PennEast pipeline project has yet to receive final approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission, but the company is proceeding with the necessary preliminary preparations in the meantime. One of those items is the need for approval of a special exception to build a compressor station off Route 940 in Kidder Township.The East Gate is approached via Route 903 and Lake Harmony Road (passing Big Boulder).The resort is allowing parking just inside the gate to the right.
