Clymer, Farber, McHugh, Mooney golden at District 11 Tournament

Four Times News area wrestlers were crowned District 11 Class 2A champions Saturday night.

Northwestern's Caleb Clymer, Northern Lehigh's Ryan Farber, Tamaqua's Tanner McHugh and Palmerton's Jared Mooney all left Liberty High School with gold medals around their necks.

Clymer topped Pen Argyl's Chase Anklam 7-0 in the 152-pound final for his second district championship after also standing on the top step of the podium as a freshman.

Farber beat Panther Valley's Hunter Kennedy 13-3 for the title at 160 pounds, his third consecutive district gold medal.

Mooney needed overtime, but wrestled tough to beat Tri-Valley's Kolt Schaeffer 3-1 for the gold medal at 182 pounds for his second straight district crown.

After a scoreless first period, McHugh pinned North Schuylkill's Mason Madden-Edwards in 2:14 to win the 132-pound title, his first district championship.

Three other Times News wrestlers also reached the finals Saturday night. Lehighton's Lucas Sangiuliano (106), Northwestern's Baily Wehr (120) and Northern Lehigh's Jason Schaffer (285) all took silver in the 2A event.

A total of 17 area wrestlers advanced to next week's Southeast Regional tournament at Wilson West Lawn High School.
