Tamaqua Police respond to domestic incidents

Tamaqua police have filed charges in relation to two domestic incidents in the borough in the last week.

James Ortiz, 46, of 74 Hunter St., Tamaqua, faces charges of making terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment in connection with an incident at his home on Feb. 17.Tamaqua Police were dispatched to the home at 3:30 p.m. for a domestic violence call. Officers spoke to two victims, both saying that Ortiz threatened to kill them if they tried to leave the home. The argument turned physical, with both victims being punched and slapped.Ortiz denied making the threats or harming anyone.Cory Matalavage, 35, of Tamaqua, was cited for making terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment on Feb. 19. The victim said Matalavage grabbed her by the arm and neck, then held her against a wall, threatening to kill her. She was able to get free and fled to another home to call police.Matalavage was arraigned before duty District Magisterial Judge David Rossi, who set bail at $5,000 straight cash. She was unable to post bail and was transported to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville.
