Three Lehigh County men arrested in retail theft case

A trio of Lehigh County men are in custody for their roles in a pair of retail thefts in Mahoning Township.

Mahoning Township Police Department said that at 3:56 p.m. Feb. 8, police investigated a retail theft at Walmart.Loss prevention reported that three people were involved, and they fled in a Nissan Altima.The merchandise involved was valued at more than $1,700.Police located and stopped the vehicle on Route 443 at 4:15 p.m.The driver of the car, Juan Torres, 35, of Allentown, has been charged with retail theft, criminal conspiracy - retail theft, and driving with a suspended license.During the investigation, police found Torres had multiple warrants for his arrest from the Berks County Sheriff's Office.Two passengers in the car, Jose Matias Jr, 27, of Allentown, and Manuel Rivera Jr., 20, of Allentown, were charged with retail theft, and criminal conspiracy - retail theft.Police also found that Matias had a warrant for his arrest from South Whitehall Township Police.They were placed in Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail.Police discovered an additional retail theft had occurred at Giant after the Walmart theft.In that incident, police seized Flonase, razors, chocolates, and flowers from the vehicle.Giant valued these items at over $200.Matias and Rivera have been charged with retail theft and criminal conspiracy - retail theft for the Giant theft.
